READING:
Students will:
Understand that printed material provides information
Develop a sense of book use and begin to identify parts of a book (Title, cover, illustrations)
Recognize the sequence of a story
Enjoy listening to stories - including fiction and non-fiction
Actively work on reading comprehension by retelling a story, identify details of the story
Learn to rhyme words
Recognize and name each letter of the alphabet out of order
Recognize first name when printed


LANGUAGE:
Students will:
Understand and follow one and two step directions
Understand and correctly use position words (under, over, in, etc)
Use words to express frustration, state needs and solve problems
Develop vocabulary for social communication and interaction
Participate in socio-dramatic play
Listen and respond to oral communication
Speak in clear and coherent sentences
Develop vocabulary for and use it appropriately as related to classsroom routine

WRITING:
Students will:
Draw pictures and describe the pictures using detail words
Able to trace first name

SOCIAL STUDIES:
Students will:
Learn how to adjust to new environmental settings
Learn about age-appropriate cultural diversities and experience through hands-on activities related to the tradisions of various countries (Cinco de Mayo, International/Cultural Day, Chineses New Year)
Learn about community helpers
Develop a sense of patriotism. Begin to know the Pledge of Allegiance.
Experience the ability to give to and share with others.
Explore monthly themes
Learn the classroom routines
Learn address, including city and state
Understand what thankfulness means
Discuss and practice cooperation and teamwork
Participate in social outreach projects
Participate in simple recycling projects and discover how recycling helps ecology/environment

SCIENCE:
Students will:
Enjoy science through hands-on simple experiements
Life Science-learn about insects and plants; learn about life cycles and about process and growth; learn about different types of animals and their habitats
Physical Science: explore physical change (water, steam, ice-liquid, vapor, solid)
Earth Science-learn about temperature and the difference between hot and cold.
Experimentation-learn to mix colors

SOCIALand EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Students will:
Be comfortable separating from parents/care provider
Learn to cooperate with others and develop friendships
Learn to verbally express individual feelings
Differentiate between free choice activities and teacher directed activities
Use imagination
Learn to take turns and include others in play
Gain confidence in learning classroom rules and routine
Listen when others speak

Pre-MATH AND PROBLEM SOLVING:

SENSORY AND PERCEPTUAL:
Students will:
Identify positions of objects
Recognize similarities and difference in objects and classify sounds and touch
Recognize similarities and differences in sounds
Recognize and repeat simple beat sequences
Locate the direction of sound

FINE ARTS and CREATIVITY:
Students will:
Experience tactile creativity
Freely explore materials (sensory materials, play dough, etc)
Learn all common colors
Experience teacher directed art projects
Express feelings through dance, music and movement
Experience art through nature, by observing as well as using found materials (shells, rocks, leaves, etc)


HEALTH AND SAFETY:
Students will:
Be introduced to nutrition
Enjoy healthy daily lunch and snacks
Learn school safety procedures including fire safety and earthquake preparedness
Learn proper hand washing techniques
Learn about keeping a germ free environment
Learn about stranger safety
Learn Personal Safety Program, "Talk About Touching"
Learn about the importance of adult supervision

SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT:
Students will:
Learn prayers (Sign of the Cross, Hail Mary, Our Father, Prayer before meals)
Learn how to talk and listen to God through prayer - understanding prayerful behaviors/attitudes
Experience the Bible through stories, song and dramatic activities
Integrate God and values throughout the curriculum and throughout the day
Learn that Jesus teaches us in many ways how to show our love for others
Develop an understanding of religious terms, Mass, sisters, priests, Jesus, Mary, Joseph, God)
